all about Karl

As you may have figured out by now, I'm a web designer and developer from Ann Arbor, Michigan. I also teach XHTML and CSS in the Internet Professional Program at Washtenaw Community College.

I have always had trouble defining what I want to do "when I grow up," but once I discovered web design and coding, the choice was clear. I enjoy the problem-solving and logical aspects of coding. Due to "the duality of Karl", I also enjoy exercising the creative right-side of my brain by designing in Photoshop. I love learning, and the fact that everything in the web world is constantly changing keeps things fresh and challenging.

I've only been involved in web design for a couple of years, but throughout my personal and professional life, I have always had my hand in computers and technology. Mainly due to my interest and general knowledge, I've often been the guy coworkers would come to when they have problems. I've gained experience in computer training, computer system conversions, and database creation and maintenance.

As a student at WCC, I've been studying web development and design intensively, and I'm currently learning new languages (PHP and Ruby). As a teacher, I'm honing my skills in bridging the gap between geeks and regular people by conveying technical concepts in terms my students can readily understand. And the contract work I've done for Inner Circle Media, Keystone Media, and Lireo Designs has helped me to learn more advanced techniques of putting together sites while I try to master CSS.

Karl Who?

If you're having trouble with my last name, you're not alone. Although I answer to just about anything that's reasonably close, if you want to know how it is pronounced, try saying the first part of this phrase:

"'Cuz his key fits in the lock and her's doesn't."
